ESI Analyst Adds New Search Functionality and Features
The power of regular expressions are unmatched when attempting to find textual or numeric patterns in a set of documents or metadata. ESI Analyst, understanding their importance to investigations, recently deployed the ability to conduct regular expression searches across its various supported metadata types. Coupled with this new search functionality, search hit highlighting has been added so that a user may quickly identify these responsive patterns when using the various timeline and review interfaces available within the software.
Paired with the search hit highlighting functionality, this empowers investigators to quickly identify relevant patterns in the multitude of metadata sources our platform supports.
Regular expressions, sometimes referred to as a “regex”, are patterns used to match character combinations in strings of text. Their power to match patterns is quite useful to investigators attempting to identify particular patterns in the context of electronic discovery. While seemingly complex, they can be perfected with practice and testing, and can yield significant results beyond those of standard keyword and Boolean searches.
“We are very proud to be able to offer this advanced filtering methodology to our users”, announced Rick Clark, Chief Strategy Officer at ESI Analyst. “Paired with the search hit highlighting functionality, this empowers investigators to quickly identify relevant patterns in the multitude of metadata sources our platform supports.”
“Personable Identifiable Information or ‘PII’ is often at the heart of investigations. Adding this functionality has been on our development radar and we are happy to be releasing this highly requested functionality to our end-users”, remarked Trent Livingston, CEO of ESI Analyst. “Given the ability of regular expressions to find patterns such as social security numbers, email addresses, and credit card numbers, it made perfect sense to incorporate it into the interface.”
ESI Analyst’s search hit highlighting not only works well with the regular expression search functionality, but is also enabled for standard textual searches as well. The interface supports both basic keyword searches as well as Boolean AND or OR searches using a string of words. These searches, when applied to specific metadata fields, are highlighted to the end-user within the display interface for quick and easy identification.
